International Archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam, a bronze medallist at the recently-held World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai, lashed out at the officials of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) for reducing the cash incentive announced to her by the State government.
She announced that she will go on an indefinite hunger-strike at from Monday, after alleging discrepancies in payment of Rs 1 crore that was supposedly promised to her by the Andhra Pradesh government last August.
Chandrababu Naidu in last August announced a cash incentive of `1 crore, 500 sq.ft land in Vijayawada and Group-I posting to the international archer after she received the prestigious Arjuna Award from President Ram Nath Kovind.
The confusion arose when the State government issued a Government Order stating that it will give only `61.53 lakh out of the `1 crore promised to Surekha and `15 lakh will be given to Cherukuri Satyanarayana for “coaching” the archer.
Irked by the Government’s apathy, Surekha clarified that Satyanarayana was not her coach. She also explained that she came out of his academy in 2013 and Satyanarayana is just her guardian and not the coach. She also requested CM Chandra Babu Naidu to intervene as she’s getting threats from the SAAP officials.
