The BJP MPs have been accusing the social media platforms Facebook, and Twitter for showing partiality and censoring their advertisements.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur, the head of the Parliamentary IT Committee, told, “We have been receiving a lot of complaints about various social media platforms. And just to safeguard the interest of the citizens, and to make sure that nothing goes wrong, we are trying to understand from the government and the social media platforms as well that why people are complaining, what has changed?”
The Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology recently said it would take appropriate action against Twitter after the company refused to send its top officials for a hearing to discuss the use of social media on February 11.
The panel takes very serious note of the development and will take action on the date of the hearing, committee chairperson Anurag Thakur said. The BJP MP also warned Facebook of the dire consequences and asked citizens to email concerns related to the topic.
