Britain’s oldest goldfish, George passed away at the age of 44. The 75-year-old Keith Allies won the fish at a fair in 1974 along with another one, Fred. He gave them to his girlfriend Mary, now his wife as a romantic gesture.

Usually, the goldfish do not live beyond ten years.

Mrs. Allies told the Sun, “He was part of the family. I saw him struggling as he swam around the fishbowl and then he passed away on Wednesday.”

Fred died at the age of 42.

They are buried together in the back garden.
