The authors and political leaders from India have condemned the decision of organizers of the All India Marathi Literary Meet to withdraw the invitation extended to renowned author Nayanathara Sahgal.
The decision to withdraw the invitation to Nayanathara Sahgal was taken after a political outfit warned to disrupt the function. Sahgal (91) was one of the forefront members of the ‘award wapsi’ campaign.
The MNS chief Raj Thackeray who reacted on this said that though he is not against inviting her, local party leaders have opposed Sahgal’s presence in the literary meet.
“If Sahgal’s presence at the All India Literary Meet is transcending into a cultural exchange, I or my party will not oppose it, Thackeray said. Nayanathara Sahgal, a noted English author was to inaugurate the 92nd literary meet on January 11th in Yavatmal district in presence of Maharastra CM Devendra Fadnavis.
