CBI books its special director in Bribery case

In an unprecedented move, the country’s top investigation agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has named its Special Director Rakesh Asthana in a new FIR involving a bribery scam.

A 1984 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, Rakesh Asthana is accused of accepting a bribe of ₹ 2 crores in a case that also involves businessman Moin Qureshi, who is facing multiple cases including money laundering and corruption.
Earlier, Rakesh Asthana had filed a complaint against the CBI Director Alok Varma, accusing him of interfering in a corruption case involving family members of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The CBI started an investigation on Asthana after a Dubai based broker Manoj Prasad was arrested. It’s also reported that Sana Satish, an accused in a bribery case said that Asthana had demanded Rs 3 crores from him to bail him out of the case.
