Gali Janardhan Reddy becomes kingmaker in Karnataka elections

With nominations for Karnataka Assembly elections coming to a close, political parties have revved up their campaigns. Amidst the many influencers in this election, former minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy is once again assuming a prominent role. Having secured tickets from the BJP for his supporters, Janardhan Reddy seems to have made it his personal goal to ensure their success.

Reddy has begun whirlwind tours of Bellary already. He campaigned for the first time in the Chitradurga road show last week, and is now set to campaign in Malakalmuru constituency for his friend Sri Ramulu. He will also visit the constituencies from where his brothers Somasekhar and Karunakar are set to contest. Despite BJP National President Amit Shah declaring publicly that the party had no ties with Janardhan Reddy, his presence has been inevitable in Bellary.

Gali Janardhan Reddy has been part of grand public meetings. He has shared the dais with Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh, proving his ties with the BJP. Reports say that Reddy is freely using money and people to ensure a win for his coterie. This is also an opportunity for him to prove that his hold over the region has not come down in any way. Gali Janardhan Reddy has been out on bail since 2015, but has not had an opportunity to prove his political might. It is being said that Gali intends to gain his previous position in Kannada politics after the elections.
