There has been a steep rise in reports of self-harm among the people. Experts say the rise is shocking confirmation that more young people are experiencing serious psychological distress because they are under unprecedented social pressures.

A recent study in 2016 showed that self-harming is one of the main causes of death among the youth. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation had found that about 60,000 youth in India died every year because of self-harming.

Despite the self-harming cases are rising at an alarming rate, there are ways to control them.

Change the environment

Most people tend to self-harm in their own space as it’s out of everyone’s reach. Moving into public places would help them to reconsider their decisions that were usually taken in an impulse.

Listen to music

Like often said, music can be great therapy. Listening to your favorite song, or humming them can do a world of wonders. So, create a playlist of your favorite songs and listen to them quite often.

Seek professional help for long term

Though some tips can help them postpone the self-harming for a brief time, it’s always advisable to seek professional help.
