In order to protect the pedestrians, the Israeli city installed LED ‘zombie traffic lights’ that force them to look up from their smartphones while crossing the road. With this, the accidents between vehicles and inattentive pedestrians will be reduced.
Officials in Tel Aviv embedded the stoplights in the ground at a busy crosswalk as part of a bid to improve road safety.
The municipality is planning to expand the zombie lights to other areas if it proves effective.
Already, such systems are being used in Australia, Netherlands and Singapore.
