A large winter storm with greater than 200 million people in its path is bearing down on the East Coast.

Heavy flooding rains falling on a lot of the Deep South on Tuesday night time are anticipated to alter over to ice and snow because the system hits the mid-Atlantic and Northeast on Wednesday.

The storm is likely to leave its effect on 39 states, and roughly 60 % of the nation’s inhabitants are in its path. Parts of southern Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland are likely to be the worst affected in the storm.

‘Snow will transfer from southwest to northeast into Ohio and the Mid-Atlantic area late tonight, altering to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain and finally all rain for a lot of,’ the Nationwide Climate Service stated in a flash bulletin on Tuesday.

The storm is referred to as Winter Storm Petra by the Weather Channel, a designation not recognized by the government or other forecasters.

Schools throughout much of the mid-Atlantic are expected to close on Wednesday.
