Cast: Rajinikanth, Simran, Trisha, Vijay Setupathi, Nawazuddin Siddique, and others
Director: Karthik Subbaraj
Release date: 10th January 2019
‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth seems to be in no mood to relax. He is releasing one movie after the other irrespective of its result. Post the success of ‘Robo 2.O’, he is back with a mass entertainer ‘Peta’. Let’s see whether Rajinikanth can mesmerize the fans with this movie or not.
Kaali (Rajinikanth) is a hostel warden who wins the love of the students for setting the ragging guys right and tries to solve a young love lover’s problem. But, Kaali is not someone the students know and he has a haunting past. What is that past and what’s the motive behind working as hostel warden is the rest of the story.
Though the movie reminds of his old movies like ‘Basha’ with heavy-action flashback episodes, such concepts are getting repetitive in Rajini’s films. While the fans may enjoy it to an extent, the normal audience may not get connected to it.
Vintage Rajini styles
Picturization of two songs
Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui characters
A routine story, poor flashback
The mediocre first half, and a boring second half
Verdict: On the whole, ‘Peta’ is a film only for the ardent fans of Rajinikanth who were anxiously waiting to see the vintage Rajinikanth. Other than his fans, the normal audience may find it disappointing.
