Tanzanian ferry capsizes, killing at least 131

On Friday, the officials said that the death toll from the capsizing of a Tanzanian ferry on Lake Victoria has increased to at least 131 people. The officials added that the death toll could rise further. Scores of people are still missing.

The ferry MV Nyerere capsized just a few metres from the dock on Ukerewe, the lake’s biggest island. Initial estimates suggested there were more than 300 people on board.
Tanzanian president John Magnufuli said, “We have directed that all individuals who were involved in causing this accident will be arrested.”
Further investigation is underway.
